Karen joined Hutchinson and Bloodgood LLP in 1999 and was named partner in October 2005. Her diverse experience includes working with closely-held companies in a variety of industries, including professional service companies, manufacturing and distribution, commercial real estate, and nonprofit organizations.
Karen has extensive experience providing audit and compliance services to a wide range of small to medium sized businesses, as well as several nonprofit organizations. She has worked closely with boards advising on governance and tax-exempt status management. She is also responsible for providing technical accounting guidance to audit engagement teams. Karen is a member of the firm’s Accounting and Auditing Committee.
With a focus on tax planning and compliance, the scope of Karen’s tax service also includes financial statement preparation for businesses and individual clients. Trained to identify tax saving opportunities through innovative approaches, Karen works closely with clients throughout the year. In conjunction with her work with small to medium sized businesses, Karen provides clients with QuickBooks accounting software consulting services.
Karen currently serves on the Board of United Way of Santa Cruz County, is District Treasurer for Rotary District 5170, and is a Past-President of the Capitola Aptos Rotary Club. She just finished a satisfying six-year term on the Board of CASA of Santa Cruz County, during which time the organization held a successful capital campaign to purchase a “Casa for CASA”. Karen is also a member of the AICPA and CSCPA.
Prior to joining Hutchinson and Bloodgood LLP, Karen spent several years with local Northern California firms. An avid tennis player she brings her focus to the game.
