Geri Wood has been in and around accounting her entire life. Both her father and grandfather were CPAs, and Geri followed in their footsteps with an inherited talent for working with numbers. After graduating from the University of San Diego with a degree in Business Administration, she began working for her father’s accounting firm as a bookkeeper. “It came very easily for me. You could say I was a natural.” Getting her CPA license was the next logical step. Over the years, Geri has developed an extensive career in the San Diego area as an Accountant for both public and private industry.
Geri joined Hutchinson and Bloodgood in 2001 and is currently a senior manager specializing in tax and financial reporting. Her background includes working with businesses and their retirement plans in a wide variety of industries including hi-tech, software, investment management, skilled nursing, manufacturing and distribution, healthcare and construction. She specializes in audits of employee benefit plans and has in-depth knowledge of AICPA, ERISA, DOL and IRS requirements relating to these plans.
Geri is the president of the Western Pension Benefits Conference, San Diego Chapter. She is a member of the California Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In 2010, she received her certification in international financial reporting standards from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Geri is an “outdoor girl” and enjoys physical activities that challenge her stamina and endurance. She works out regularly, doing circuit-training, hiking and running. “I love the sense of accomplishment I get when I push myself.” Whether she’s climbing mountains or helping her clients, Geri always goes the extra mile in her dedication and responsiveness.
